I am a PhD Candidate in the Immunology Research Group at Stellenbosch University in the Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. My research focuses on the immunometabolic profiles of innate and adaptive host cells, with a particular emphasis on myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC). In addition, we are interested in the immune mechanisms of the host that mediate pathogen protection and escape in the lungs—the site of pulmonary TB disease. My early training was in the field of dentistry at the University of Zambia. However, I've always had a passion for immunology, so I switched careers to pursue my passion. Since 2014, my main interest has been research, and I've worked on topics addressing ailments such as diabetes, Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), and currently host immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) disease. In my leisure time, I enjoy playing chess, reading novels on diverse topics such as philosophy, technology and the future, health and nutrition, the arts and culture, and jogging to stay in shape.
